Time: 4:00pm-5:30pm

Ages: 12 & Up (18+ to play younger welcome!)

Learn advanced scene preparation techniques to create BOOKABLE performances!

Adam has worked as the set coach on some of the most successful shows on TV, including: Danger Force, Henry Danger, Sam & Cat, Victorious, iCarly, Mutt & Stuff and more! His clients have booked co-stars, guest stars, pilots, and lead roles in feature films!

This is an advanced 3 day scene study session that focuses on giving yourself the best chance to perform on a professional level that is bookable!

Class Syllabus and Breakdown:

DAY 1 -

Understanding of the following:

  • 1. How to break down a story.

    • Who is the main character(s)? / What do they want? (Objective)

    • What's getting in their way, (Obstacle) and how do they respond to that? What do they do to try for what they want (Action)?

    • What does the audience care about/want to know?

  • 2. How to break down a character.

    • Why does your character do what they do, and make the choices they make? (Backstory, but focused on the emotional elements and core wounds that inform their choices.)

    • What are your character's flaws, and strengths?

    • What is your character's base emotion, and base physicality?

    • How do they respond to obstacles?

  • 3. How to break down a scene.

    • What emotion does my character start the scene with?

    • When does their emotion change, and what changes it?

    • Does my character have an objective in the scene, or are they reacting to someone else's objective?

    • -f it's my character's objective, what is the obstacle?

    • What are my character's reactions throughout the scene?

    • What is my character's intention with each line?

DAY 2 -

How To Rehearse Comedy. Now that the story elements are in place, and they understand and feel who they're character is, we can talk about comedy.

  • What is the game/joke of the scene?

  • What are the individual jokes? (turns, triplets, etc...)

  • Character Space and Critic Space.

DAY 3

  • Perform and work scenes.

  • Recap, and how to apply this to co-stars and smaller roles.

  • Parents are invited for ‘show and tell portion’ to watch performances & chat with Adam about what was learned and the industry


Come away from this session more confident than ever by learning specific scene study methods including:

  •       How to impress the writers, directors, and casting directors in auditions by going deeper than ‘surface level’ performances

  • How to hear, understand, and implement notes and re-writes from directors and writers.

  • Understanding the difference between actor ‘self critiquing’ thoughts and character thoughts (and how to separate the two)

  • Advanced techniques and tools for the actor to confidently breakdown audition material themselves and add smart layers to characters and performances
