About Rick:

Rick is Casting Director for Film/TV, having recently worked on Season 1 of the WB/Netflix limited series “Untamed” staring Eric Bana, and Season 4 of the Amazon series “Upload.” He also served as a casting director on the Paramount+ series “Fatal Attraction” starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan; the Netflix limited series "True Story" starring Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes, the Snapchat original "Total Badass Wrestling” produced by Comedy Bang Bang and the Viceland scripted series “What would Diplo Do?” starring James Van Der Beek. 

Rick worked as an associate casting director on the Apple+ series “Stick” S1, starring Owen Wilson and Marc Maron; the Netflix limited Series “Zero Day” starring Robert De Niro; the Apple + series "Severance” S2 directed by Ben Stiller; the Warner Brothers feature “Minecraft” starring Jason Momoa & Jack Black and the Apple+ feature “Wolfs” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. 

Past credits include the Netflix feature "Red Notice" starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot; the Amazon feature "The Tender Bar" starring Ben Affleck; the Apple+ feature “Spirited” starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell; the MGM feature "The Boys in the Boat" directed by George Clooney and the Netflix limited series “Griselda” starring Sofia Vergara.

Rick worked on 3 seasons of the hit Comedy Central series, "Workaholics" starring Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson.  He has also helped to cast the Disney feature "Tomorrowland" starring George Clooney, and two pilots for ABC, "The Pro" starring Rob Lowe and "An American Education" starring Jack Whitehall and Rosie Perez.  Rick worked on the first two Amazon pilots, "Betas" and "Bowsers" and the WB/CW pilot “The Carrie Diaries” produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. 

While working in New York, Rick was a casting assistant on several Broadway shows, including “Nine to Five,” “Wicked,” “Cry Baby,” and “Legally Blonde” with the renowned casting director, Bernie Telsey. Rick graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a bachelor of arts in theatre arts/film with a minor in business.  Rick is also an alumnus from the Orange County School of the Arts.

 


CLASS DETAILS & FORMAT:

BEFORE…

  • Rick will assign scenes before the session

  • Prep your scene as you would for a real audition

  • Arrive 10 minutes before the start time and be ready to take lots of notes!

DURING…

  • Class Starts - with an in-depth and interactive seminar between Rick and the actors


Things you will learn:

A. 20 – 25 minute lecture on “How to book the part”. The following will be discussed.

1. Understanding the tone of a show.

2. Finding the given circumstances for audition sides.

3. Understanding the point of each character / why they are there.

4. The difference between an interesting choice and an obvious choice.

5. How to find specific interesting choices that bring the character to life.

6. Audition Technique & Self-tape hints.

  • - The importance of a good Head Shot.

  • - The truth about demo reels

  • - Co-stars vs. Guest starts. What you should you be doing to get to the next level.

B. Question and Answers –

Rick will take questions from the Class

C. Audition technique –

Rick will assign short scenes that will be performed in a class setting. Rick will give each student feedback and a redirect on the scene.
